What’s the difference between medical and vision insurance?

Vision insurance typically covers routine eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses. Medical insurance is for anything involving eye health problems, like infections, dry eye treatment, cataracts, glaucoma, or surgery. Not sure which applies? We’ll help you sort it out before your visit.

Does my vision insurance cover surgery or specialty treatments?

No. Vision plans only cover routine eye care, like exams and glasses. We bill all procedures through your medical insurance. This includes surgeries and anything related to a diagnosed condition, like cataracts or drooping eyelids.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

We accept a wide range of both medical and vision plans. Click here to view our plans. Still not sure? Call our team and we’ll be happy to check for you.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Please bring your insurance card(s), photo ID, and a list of any current medications. If you wear glasses or contacts, bring those too—we may need them to complete your exam.

Will I have a copay or out-of-pocket cost?

In most cases, yes. Like any medical appointment, your insurance plan may require a copay, deductible, or coinsurance. We’ll review any costs with you before treatment or surgery so there are no surprises.

What if I don’t have insurance?

No problem. We offer various financing options and can provide a cost estimate before your appointment.

Does insurance cover LASIK or premium IOLs?

No. LASIK and premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) are elective procedures, meaning insurance does not typically cover them. However, we offer payment options to make these vision-enhancing treatments more affordable.

What if my insurance does not cover the full cost?

If your insurance only partially covers your treatment, we offer various financing options to help spread payments over time. Our team will work with you to maximize your benefits and minimize out-of-pocket costs.

Will my insurance cover retinal treatments or injections?

Yes, most medical insurance plans, including Medicare, cover retinal treatments such as anti-VEGF injections (EYLEA®, Lucentis®, Beovu®, Avastin®, Macugen®), laser therapy, and vitrectomy surgery when deemed medically necessary. Our team will verify your coverage and help minimize out-of-pocket costs.

Does insurance cover oculoplastic procedures?

Coverage for oculoplastic procedures depends on whether the procedure is medically necessary or cosmetic. Insurance typically covers oculoplastic surgery when a doctor performs it to correct a medical condition, restore function, or improve vision.
